“The ability to communicate clearly is an essential skill we all must develop and as such I am passionate about helping your child communicate to the best of his or her ability. My therapy approach is focused on your child, the environments he or she needs to communicate in and the people he or she needs to communicate with. I’ll work with you, as parents and caregivers, to improve your child’s communication skills so that they can talk, understand, interact and ultimately enjoy the experience of communicating with others.”

Claire Bennett completed her honours degree in Speech and Language Therapy at Canterbury University in 2002. She was also awarded the D Bevan Holdgate Prize for top clinician in her graduating class.

Since then Claire spent several years working with preschool and school age children with Ministry of Education, Special Education, before traveling to the United Kingdom. In the UK Claire specialised to work with preschool and school age children with high and complex communication needs. This included children with a range of special needs, including Autistic spectrum disorders, Cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. Claire is trained in the use of Makaton sign and the Picture Exchange Communication system (PECs).

Since returning to New Zealand in 2009, Claire further specialised her skills to work with individuals of all ages who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), specifically the use of low and high tech communication equipment.

Claire is married with three young sons. She predominantly works with North Shore based clients, in their homes and educational settings. Claire also runs a clinic in Takapuna on Thursdays.

We take for granted that our children will develop effective communication skills and when this doesn’t happen it can be a source of immense worry and frustration. I am passionate about helping you to improve your child’s communication skills and finding the individual approach that will work best for you and your child. I look forward to sharing your journey to communication success.”
